PETERSBURG, VA – On Friday Delegate Lashrecse Aird was appointed to the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission. The Commission, established in 1999, was formed to promote economic growth and development in 40 tobacco-dependent communities in Southside and Southwest Virginia by utilizing proceeds from the national tobacco settlement. The appointment to the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission is subject to confirmation by the General Assembly and is for a term coincident with Del. Lashrecse Aird’s current House term.
Delegate Aird released the following statement upon learning of her appointment to the Commission:
“Over the past 20 years, the Tobacco Commission has done incredible work in supporting job creation and directing resources to advance the development of regions significantly impacted by the shifting global economy,” said Delegate Lashrecse Aird. “This appointment directly aligns with the needs of my district and the initiatives I’ve always worked. I look forward to prioritizing continued broadband expansion, investment into the development and training of our workforce, a diversification of our industries and ensuring dynamic and innovative educational opportunities for all of our citizens, as a member of this Commission.”
